Take it Like a Vamp Blog Tour: Interview with Candace Havens

I am very excited to be a part of the blog tour for Candace Haven’s book Take it Like a Vamp (review here)! This book is part of Entangled Publishing’s new Covet line. Candace was kind enough to take the time to answer some questions about the book and about herself.

A Bookworm’s Haven (ABWH): Can you tell us a little bit about Take it Like a Vamp for those who might not have read it?

Candace Havens (CH): It’s a friends to lovers story that involves a super hot Vamp, Nick, and a curvy neighbor Casey. They are in love with one another, but one’s afraid to tell the other because they don’t want to mess up the friendship. There are politics and sexy fun.

ABWH: Do you have a favorite scene from Take it Like a Vamp? I personally love the watching Casey get ready for the ball she has to attend with Nick!

CH: All those people were so fun to listen to and we got to meet Linc! That’s one of my favorites too, and another that involves the best friend Linc. But I don’t want to give too much away. (Smile)

ABWH: Do you plan to turn this world into a series or will Take it Like a Vamp be a stand-alone novel? I would personally love to see more of Linc! *crosses fingers*

CH: You made me laugh. Every reader who has emailed me to tell me what they think about the book as begged me to write Linc’s story. It’s rolling around in my head, so it could happen. Linc is, quite honestly, one of my favorite characters I’ve ever written. I swear that it has nothing to do with the fact he looks like Kris Holden-Ried from “Lost Girl” and “Underworld.” (Fanning self.)

ABWH: If Take it Like a Vamp could be made into a movie, who would your dream cast be for Casey and Nick?

CH: We’d have to feed an actress in Hollywood a lot of donuts to play Casey, who has a Marilyn Monroe figure. Nick, looks like Liam McIntyre from Spartacus: Blood and Sand.

ABWH: Have you ever read or seen yourself as a character in a book or a movie?

CH: No, but there’s a bit of me in every character I write. I’ve been pretending that Coach named their new Candace purse after me. Though, they have yet to send me one. It’s like they want me to pay for it or something. I mean, they are the ones who used my name. (Smile)

ABWH: Who are some authors that are on your must read list?

CH: Oh, goodness. I read everything, and I have so many friends who are authors that if I leave someone off, they’ll me. I am reading Gena Showalters Alice in Zombieland book, which is wicked good. She sent me an arc, and I have to force myself to put it down to work on my stuff. And when I was flying last weekend I read Gina Maxwell’s Seducing Cinderella. Loved that book. I read Katee Robert’s Wrong Bed, Right Guy a month or so ago on another flight and I just love that new line from Entangled. I also need to catch up with some of Blaze Babes’ books. And I’ve been on a Bronte sisters kick lately. I just re-read “Jane Eyre.” I’m not going to tell you how many times I’ve read that book. And now, thanks to the movie, Michael Fassbender will forever be Mr. Rochester in my head. Some day, I’d like to do a contemporary series featuring the sisters. They had such tragic lives, but I’d like to write them some happy endings.

ABWH:What is something you have to have with you when writing?

CH: iPhone with my tunes and headphones. It’s the only way I can block out the multitude of distractions around me.

ABWH: Can you share what you are working on now?

CH: I have a new Steampunk series, Iron Demon, beginning in October. It’s kind of Sherlock Holmes meets the Wild, Wild West, only Sherlock is a woman.

ABWH: Thanks so much for being here today Candace! Is there anything that you would like to add?

CH: Thank you so much for letting me hang out. I hope you guys enjoy Take It Like A Vamp!
