*If you have not read Fallen, this will contain spoilers*

How many lives do you need to live before you find someone worth dying for? In the aftermath of what happened at Sword & Cross, Luce has been hidden away by her cursed angelic boyfriend, Daniel, in a new school filled with Nephilim, the offspring of fallen angels and humans. Daniel promises she will be safe here, protected from those who would kill her. At the school Luce discovers what the Shadows that have followed her all her life mean – and how to manipulate them to see into her other lives. Yet the more Luce learns about herself, the more she realizes that the past is her only key to unlocking her future…and that Daniel hasn’t told her everything. What if his version of the past isn’t actually the way things happened…what if Luce was really meant to be with someone else?

Summary from Goodreads.com

My Review: I want to preface this by saying I LOVED Fallen!  Which is the first book in this series.  I read it pre-blog though so I have no review up here, but it was one of those books that stayed with me for a long time.  So, I was crazy excited when I got my hands on this book at BEA.  I also met an awesome person in line who is now my blogging buddy and friend Kate.  Hi, Kate! *waves*   Okay so onto this book.  For my review I am going to do a letter.  I did this for another book and really liked it so I am going to do it again.  This letter will be addressed to Luce, here goes.

Dear Luce,

I fell head over heals in love with the story of you and Daniel when you were at Sword & Cross, but now that you are at Shoreline things are getting a little…umm…weird.  I completely understand that you are thrust into the middle of a world you know nothing about.  It must be very difficult to try and make sense of everything and live you life knowing that everyone around you knows more.  I get why you are frustrated, but do you really have to be so hard on Daniel?  The guy has lived a thousand lifetimes of torment (no pun intended) because he is hopelessly in love with you.  He has lost you so many times before and now that you appear to be staying, of course he is going to be protective of you!  Can you really blame the guy?  I know it must stink to be dropped off somewhere not knowing anyone and try to start over, but is all the second guessing really necessary?  Can’t you have a little faith that he is doing what is best for you?

I understand that Daniel needs to loosen up a little and give you a chance to have a life when he is not around, but you are putting yourself in a lot of dangerous situations and therefore the people around you are in danger too.  Also, every time he comes around and you guys have an amazing moment together, is it necessary to pick a fight before he leaves every time?  What is the point in that?  Your futures are kinda up in the air right now, why waste time always picking fights with him?

On the plus side, you have great taste in friends at your new school.  I loved Miles, he is so cute and really looks out for you.  Your roommate, Shelby, seems to be a little tougher to love at first, but she really grew on me and I think she will be a good person to have on your side down the road.  I also liked your teachers, having an angel and a demon teaching you must be really…interesting.  I think they are definitely trying to drop some hints to you about why you are there and what you could be learning about.

In closing Luce, I completely understand why you are questioning things going on in your life, but maybe it is time to have a little faith and stop feeling so down.   I hope that in the future, things will brighten up and you will give Daniel a chance to try and explain some things to you before you jump to these crazy conclusions that leave you so down for days.  I also give you full permission to tell Daniel he needs to lighten up a bit and clue you in on a few things.

I look forward to seeing your adventures in the future and hope you follow your heart and not the doubt that you are letting creep into your life.

Sincerely,

Meaghan

  1. I love the way that you did your review :) I do have to say though, that I LOVED the way Luce acted. I loved that she didn’t just accept what he said. Sure they’ve been going on forever and forever and forever. But… that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have her own mind, can’t make her own decisions, and that she doesn’t need to be treated with respect instead of just doing everything Daniel says! Maybe it’s just because the girl’s in these books don’t usually stand up for themselves like that!

  2. I want to thank everyone for the comments because they have made me realize I need to clarify a couple of things. I do not like girls who follow boys blindly, they make annoying characters. I think part of the reason I was frustrated with Luce is because I have read a couple books in a row with the same plot and same whininess so I am a little frustrated in general. Overall I think Daniel needs to lighten up a bit and Luce needs to chill out a bit. They both need to work on communication though because I think that would solve a lot of problems. Hope that makes sense :)

  3. LOL, what a creative format for your review! I didn’t love Fallen, so I still am not sure whether I’ll read this one or not. Thanks for the review though!
