Hello all and welcome to my stop in the Harry Potter Extravaganza!  If you have been following along with us then, sweet!  If not, welcome to the tour.  You can find out all about everything that is going on including great giveaways on The Bibliophilic Book Blog here. For my part of the tour I am going to be talking about and reviewing the fourth book in the series, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and if you come back tomorrow I am going to be giving away the UK version of this book!  For now, onto the review:

Title: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Author: J.K. Rowling

Release Date: September 1, 2002

You have in your hands the pivotal fourth novel in the seven-part tale of Harry Potter’s training as a wizard and his coming of age. Harry wants to get away from the pernicious Dursleys and go to the International Quidditch Cup with Hermione, Ron, and the Weasleys. He wants to dream about Cho Chang, his crush (and maybe do more than dream). He wants to find out about the mysterious event that’s supposed to take place at Hogwarts this year, an event involving two other rival schools of magic, and a competition that hasn’t happened for a hundred years. He wants to be a normal, fourteen-year-old wizard. Unfortunately for Harry Potter, he’s not normal–even by wizarding standards. And in his case, different can be deadly.

Summary from Goodreads.com

My Review: This series is near and dear to my heart because I have grown up with these characters.  I am a couple of years ahead of the Potter clan, but not by much so I always felt like these characters were friends I was watching grow right along with me.  I even remember when the first book cam out and it was not that big of a deal at all, I had never even heard of it.  Now I think it would be almost impossible to find someone who has not heard of Harry Potter.  I mean, they even have a theme park just for this series, which I have of course been to.  Yep, I am that dorky and went to Harry Potter Park, I came back with a pigmey puff, and a stomach full from delicious butter beer.  If you can go, I recommend it.

As for this book, I have a quick story to tell about when I read it.   I was over in the UK when this book came out.  I brought my US version with me, while touring Kings Crossing, (so cool!) and my little brother kept stealing it from me to read.  So, we bought a UK version while there and I read that one.  I remember thinking how strange the language in the UK version was.  I looked at the word “snogging” and thought, what the ____?   I even made my brother flip to the corresponding page in the US version so I could translate some of the language, if I could not decode it myself.  It was so fun, a bookworms heaven :)

Alright anyways, onto my review.  This book was the turning point in this series.  The first three books were lighter for me, and in this book everything started to get dark.  For example, there is a competition where you are warned up front that you will probably  not come out alive.  Really?  You want to enter that Harry?  Of course you do you brave, crazy, boy!  Well, actually, he doesn’t really enter it himself does he?  But I always felt that once he was in he really did want to prove himself and show everyone that he was not just his name.  Does that make sense?

This book has been my favorite of the series because of the competition that takes place.  I loved all the trials that occur and the mystery that constantly shrouds them.  I think J.K. Rowling is brilliant at foreshadowing and having mysteries constantly needing to be solved.  That, on top of loving the characters, is what kept me reading this series.

I really could talk about these books forever, but I am going to stop now before I bore you to tears with it.  So for now, I love Harry Potter!  And come back tomorrow for a giveaway of the UK version of this book :)
