Saturday Snapshot – Goodbye Key West

Saturday Snapshot is hosted over at At Home with Books and is just people sharing a photo they have taken and telling a little about it.  I am home from Florida and while I miss Key West, it is nice to be home.  For my picture this week I am want to show you a friend we found on the last day that we were there.

So what do you think?  It is illegal to take conchs so we just took his picture and set him free I promise.  He is a slimy looking thing though isn’t he? I have never seen on up close and just thought he looked so interesting.  How about you guys?  Anyone else have a Saturday Snapshot to share?

  1. The shells are lovely though. We had conch chowder in the Bahamas and it was a little too spicy for me. We saw guys diving for them so I guess it’s not illegal down there.

    • I think you can probably do it in Key West with some kind of permit. We were just at this beach that had specific signs that told us not to take out the conchs. I heard that conch chowder is really good though. 🙂

  2. Wow, I’ve never seen a conch shell with a conch in it still. That’s amazing!!

  3. I’m loving the pictures you’ve been posting! This is really cool too! 🙂

  4. That is so weird looking! I’ve never seen a live one before.

    • Yeah, me either. It kept trying to get out of the shell and crawl on our hands. It freaked me out a little, but still thought he looked cool.

  5. They’re like prehistoric snails – they’re so huge!

  6. Interesting–I’ve only ever seen empty shells.

  7. Like Alyce, I’ve never seen a live creature in a shell. It was good you let him go.

  8. Wow, I’ve never seen a conch shell with a resident before. In fact I’ve got one that my aunt gave me a very long time ago.

    Here’s my Snapshot.

  9. That is interesting, and slimy for sure! I don’t live near the ocean so I’ve never seen a live one either. I would love to have my own beach though! 🙂
    Welcome home!

  10. YUCK! I love the beautiful shell but the live slimy creature part of it gives me the creeps. I don’t see how you could eat conch shell chowder after seeing that! LOL!

  11. It looks huge, and kind of scary oozing out of the shell. No conches on our beaches, so I’ve never seen one, but I suppose they’re not so different from cockles and mussels and things – just much bigger! My Snapshot is at

  12. I had cracked conch in the Bahamas about 20 years ago, I’m glad that I didn’t know they had a big eye like that…

  13. Cool photo…glad you put him back♫♪

  14. What an unusual photo — great job.
